“Sage 200 offered the functionality we needed... we are expecting to have faster, streamlined access to information. In addition, as a fully integrated ERP platform, Sage 200 will eliminate the need to rekey data across different systems.”

With over 25 years in business, M. J. Quinn Integrated Services provides design, installation and maintenance of telecoms, mechanical, electrical, fire detection and suppression systems, LED lighting, air cooling and building services.
When it encountered the tell-tale signs of outgrowing its Sage 50 Accounts package, the company decided to move to a more powerful solution. Matt Agrimi, Director of Procurement, Shared Services at M.J. Quinn, says, “As we made further demands on the software, in terms of numbers of users and volumes of transactions, it struggled to cope. Performance issues and data corruption meant our productivity was affected. We’re committed to growth, so we began the search for a stable platform from which to manage and expand the business.”
While Sage 50 Accounts had served the company well, it was not a foregone conclusion that the new solution would also come from the Sage stable. Matt comments, “Migrating within the Sage range certainly had its advantages, as retaining a familiar user interface would minimise the culture change and cause less disruption. However, we took a good look at other potential solutions on the market. We were already using Microsoft’s customer relationship management (CRM) software, so we reviewed the Microsoft Dynamics NAV enterprise resource planning system.”
After careful consideration, the decision went in favour of a Sage 200 solution from Datel. Matt says, “Sage 200 offered the functionality we needed and it uses the latest Microsoft SQL Server database technology, which will give us speed, robustness and scalability. We are expecting to have faster, streamlined access to information. In addition, as a fully integrated ERP platform, Sage 200 will eliminate the need to rekey data across different systems.”
The new solution will also improve access to critical management information with a more flexible nominal structure, and cost centre and departmental analysis. The integral business intelligence reporting can automate key KPIs. This saves huge amounts of time in manipulating data and updating reports on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.
M.J. Quinn is a project-based business, providing a one-stop shop for the successful management of projects from conception to completion, and Sage 200 also offered project management and accounting. As Matt notes, “This will help us to capture all costs associated with the work we do for clients, so we can bill accurately and understand income and expenditure on each project.”
Commenting on the choice of Datel to provide the solution, Matt explains, “It was important to find a provider with the technical and project management capabilities to ensure a smooth transition to Sage 200. Our infrastructure provider, ICU Group, suggested that we consider Datel, along with other potential providers. What differentiated Datel was their consultative approach. We felt that they really listened when we outlined how our business works, the issues we were experiencing, and our ambitions, rather than trying to plug a particular solution.”
Established in 1978 by Mike Quinn, M.J. Quinn now has over 1,200 staff, a fleet of 1,000 vehicles, and offices on Merseyside and in London. The company provides a 24-hour, nationwide service to customers in the transport, retail, commerce, public services, education, hospitality and telecoms sectors.
Datel is the leading Sage Business Partner in the UK, providing Sage consultancy, implementation and support for Sage 200, Sage Line 500, Sage ERP 1000, Sage ERP X3, SalesLogix, Sage CRM and Sage Tax.
