Aphex solves HD Audio with an all new DSP for embedded products as well as Applications, and David Wiener, owner, talks about the future.
"People and services love to talk about HD TV, HD Video and HD displays, but there's little real discussion of HD audio. Some brands promote it but they aren’t really doing it. There is so much “information” lost or hidden in digital audio – music, voice and sound effects – that consumers aren’t getting even close to what the artists are creating in the studio. It’s sad but the concept of convenience over quality is a powerful, yet misguided, idea that has shaped the experiences and culture of listeners worldwide. A thousand songs in your pocket trumps any sense of quality and detail. The “it’s good enough” mentality that has taken hold is totally disrespectful of the artists, their work, their effort, and most of all, the excitement and passion that are built into their work. Imagine if TV threw a translucent scrim over the screen and you couldn’t see any detail even though you could understand what was going on in the visual. That’s what’s happening with music. Apple, Google and all the audio services need to focus on respecting the artists and providing true quality listening experiences. We need to teach people to be more critical listeners and to want – require – that they get to hear all the detail, the voices, the instruments, the sounds, that were part of the original performance. That’s what our efforts at Aphex focus on – bringing out the detail and richness of every audio event. Our mission is to share the real performance and effort of the artist with the listener, regardless of their personal hearing talent; everyone deserves to hear in HD. Best of all, it's totally possible to give people both the 1,000 songs and high quality sound - we've proven it and it's just a matter of product marketers deciding true quality is critical."
