Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) December 12, 2013
With parts of the Philippines recently ravaged by one of the strongest typhoons to ever hit land, Home Care Assistance of Vancouver hosted a drive to gather goods for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. As part of its 12 Days of Caring campaign, the company successfully filled 20 boxes with basic necessities such as food, clothing, water, and toys to aid in the relief effort. LBC, a cargo company, agreed to accept in-kind donations which they shipped for free directly from Vancouver to the Red Cross stationed in the Philippines for distribution to the victims in the hardest hit areas.
“We really wanted to do our part in helping those ravaged by this horrific storm,” said Carolina Orosa, owner of Home Care Assistance of Vancouver. "It's especially tragic that this happened during the holiday season so I hope that whatever we put together will be able to help in some small way to not just nourish the victims but also lift their spirits and keep them hopeful.”
The 12 Days of Caring program gives thanks to the thousands of Home Care Assistance caregivers who dedicate their lives to the well-being of seniors; the program also engages local communities through charitable giving and volunteerism. In addition, Home Care Assistance sponsors special programs and events to demonstrate appreciation to Home Care Assistance clients and the broader senior community.
Through this campaign, Home Care Assistance offices across North America spread holiday cheer while continuing to promote education around issues of aging. Due to geographic or time limitations, the winter holiday season may be one of the few opportunities throughout the year that children have to spend time with their aging parents. Local care managers are on call to address family questions and concerns, including how to arrange for respite care during the holidays or tips on setting up a family meeting to discuss the possibility of in-home care.
Home Care Assistance staff is available 24/7 to provide experienced, trustworthy caregivers to help with all home care needs. Caregivers are trained to engage clients in physical, mental and social activities, in addition to assisting with meal preparation, personal hygiene, bathing, medication reminders, transportation and more.
