Intel and Apress continue to break ground in their unique open access publishing partnership with two recent releases. The publications “Intel Xeon Phi™ Coprocessor Architecture and Tools” and “Intel Trusted Execution Technology for Server Platforms” bring the tech company’s thought leadership to a wider audience than ever before. “Intel Xeon Phi™ Coprocessor Architecture and Tools: The Guide for Application Developers” provides developers a comprehensive introduction and in-depth look at the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor architecture and the corresponding parallel data structure tools and algorithms used in the various technical computing applications for which it is suitable. It also examines the source code-level optimizations that can be performed to exploit the powerful features of the processor. Author Rezaur Rahman, Senior Staff Engineer in the Intel Software and Services Group, played a key role in the inception and development of Xeon Phi. He led the worldwide technical enabling team for Xeon Phi products, focused on porting and optimizing applications on the Xeon Phi coprocessor for hundreds of technical computing customers.
The second title, “Intel Trusted Execution Technology for Server Platforms: A Guide to More Secure Datacenters,” explains the Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) for servers from the perspective of one of its pioneers, William Futral. Futral, Senior Staff Architect in the Digital Enterprise Group at Intel, and co-author James Greene describe the TXT’s purpose, application, advantages, and limitations, while guiding the server administrator and datacenter manager in enabling the technology. The book also details how to create and establish a Launch Control Policy, discusses trade-offs in determining the right policy for the datacenter, and demonstrates how to implement trusted pools and other advanced concepts. It walks readers through the process of making Intel TXT work for them and understanding that TXT is a building block for current and future enhanced security concepts.
