Peregrine Energy Group to Help Increase Transparency in Energy Data Reporting
Boston, MA (PRWEB) December 13, 2013 -- Peregrine Energy Group has been selected to verify energy savings for an energy performance contract for the Jefferson Metropolitan Housing Authority in Ohio. The federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) recommends that public housing authorities obtain third-party monitoring and verification (M&V) of energy savings for energy performance contracts, but services are typically provided by the same energy services company that implements the performance contract. In a progressive move, the energy services company that will implement this performance contract, Tenth Avenue Group has decided to bring in a third party to review their work, and they have selected Peregrine Energy Group to do it.
An energy performance contract uses future energy savings to pay for the installation of new building equipment that is more energy efficient. The accurate measurement and verification of those savings is critical to financing the project and measuring its success. As a neutral third party, Peregrine will build on dual expertise in multifamily housing energy management and energy data analysis to provide that measurement and verification within 13 developments owned by the Jefferson Metropolitan Housing Authority. Peregrine’s services will include quantifying the energy use of existing equipment and then measuring the new equipment’s energy use over time to verify the energy savings it delivers.
“We are pleased to work with an innovative energy services company like Tenth Avenue Group,” said Paul Gromer, CEO of Peregrine Energy Group. “We believe in the third-party M&V model because an independent review increases transparency and enhances the credibility of savings. That is good news both for customers and for energy services companies.”
“We wanted to partner with a group that understood the issues surrounding HUD M&V and the energy performance contract process and showed a willingness to be flexible enough to work in the ever-changing arena that is HUD-related energy performance contracts,” said Chris Campbell, Director of Engineering and Project Development at Tenth Avenue Group. “The third-party M&V model is something that has been advocated by HUD for a long time, but has never been clearly defined. Peregrine has shown an ability to come up with successful simple and cost-effective solutions to the potentially complex problems that arise when a new idea is worked out. Our association with Peregrine has increased the effectiveness and acceptability of our projects to our customers and HUD.”
This Ohio project continues Peregrine’s expansion of its data-driven energy services from New England to around the country.
