Dr Tariq Drabu Stresses the Importance of Regular Visits to the Dentist
(PRWEB) December 14, 2013 -- Dr Tariq Drabu is a leading dentist, renowned in the UK for his dedication and commitment to high quality, professional dental care. He owns the leading Langley Dental Practice in Middleton, Manchester and is well known for his work as the Clinical Lead Dentist for the Oral Surgery Clinical Assessment and Treatment Services for NHS Heywood Middleton.
Speaking recently, Dr Tariq Drabu appealed to the general public to visit their dentist on a regular basis. He said, “GPs in the UK are reporting that they are increasingly being consulted by patients about dental and oral matters. A GP’s timetable can be extremely full, and having to deal with additional oral health issues is adding to their pressures. Dentists should do all they can to encourage patients to visit their dentist for regular check-ups. This will contribute to better oral health in the nation, and it will also ease the unnecessary burden on our GPs.”
Dr Tariq Drabu was speaking in reference to a recently published article about the increasing pressure being experienced by British GPs. The article, which was published by The Dentist website, can be read here.
The article highlights the time pressures UK GPs are facing from a marked increase in the number of oral health issues being presented to them by patients. Dr Tariq Drabu continued, saying, “GPs are there to assist with every aspect of our health and this is as it should be. However, as a dentist, I must express my concern that individuals are turning to their GP instead of their dentist when oral health problems occur. I believe that we should be exploring ways to encourage our patients to visit more regularly for check-ups. A regular visit to the dentist can prevent a huge number of oral health issues.”
The article, which highlights the results of a recent national survey, indicates that a large percentage of GPs feel that the number of oral health issues being brought to them is increasing. Dr Tariq Drabu spoke more about the survey results saying, “The survey indicates that 87% of British GPs are seeing an increase in patients with oral health related issues. The survey also highlights a point which is extremely important to me, and to the dental profession; over 96% of GPs believe that more should be done to encourage patients to visit their dentists. I agree wholeheartedly! I am determined to help in this respect. I am sure my colleagues within the dental professional would agree with me.”
Dr Tariq Drabu will be working with colleagues to identify ways that they can all encourage their patients to visit the dentist more regularly. In addition, he believes more can be done, “I think there is a role here for the Government too. The government needs to invest more in NHS dentistry and improve access for patients. They must make access for those patients who do not attend regularly a priority. By making the oral health of the nation a priority, and encouraging regular visits to the dentist, we are addressing health problems. And we will be assisting our colleagues in General Medicine by easing the pressure on them. I would urge all members of the public to visit their dentist for a check-up at least once every twelve months.”
