Express Employment Professionals, the nation’s largest privately held staffing firm, today released a list of four tips for seasonal employees who want to turn their short-term jobs into long-term ones.
Each year, employers hire hundreds of thousands of Americans for temporary jobs during the holiday season. Many of those workers will then be hired to stay on into the next year. As the holiday season draws to a close, workers should be mindful that employers will be watching them to see who is productive, fits in with the company culture and deserves to stay.
“I guarantee managers are watching their seasonal workers closely,” said Bob Funk, CEO of Express, and a former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. “They’re looking to see which employees merit a full-time, long-term position. In some sense, a seasonal job is like an extended interview, so if you want to become a permanent worker, take advantage of your holiday job and show how hard-working and dedicated you are.

Express Employment Professionals “Top Four Tips For Seasonal Workers” are as follows:
1. Work like you’re a regular. Your quality of work should be just as good as or better than any core employee if you want to turn your temporary position into a permanent one.
2. Show up on time and ask for additional work. If you want an employer to make a commitment to you, show you’re committed to them. Demonstrate your dedication and superior work ethic.
3. Dress to impress. A well-dressed employee can catch the eye of the right people. Showing that you value the workplace norms—including the dress code—can go far in the eyes of your supervisors.
4. Be personable. Attitude matters. Employers appreciate employees who get along with their co-workers and their supervisors. Socialize only when appropriate, but know your effect on workplace morale can affect your prospects.
