ArtSchools.com, A Directory of the Best Art Schools, Comments on Nebraska’s Push for Fine Arts Education
Bohemia, NY (PRWEB) December 14, 2013 -- ArtSchools.com, an online directory of the best art schools, responds to an article published by Rapid City Journal on December 6th, which details Nebraska’s push for fine arts education.
According to the Rapid City Journal article titled “Proposed School Standards Tout Importance of Fine Arts,” teachers and art advocates in Nebraska are bracing for the state Department of Education to approve newly proposed educational standards, which place fine arts in the core curriculum at public schools alongside math and science. If approved, the article says school districts across the state would have to adopt the new standards or set their own fine arts standards of an equal level to the state.
Debbie DeFrain, director of the fine arts curriculum and instruction for the Nebraska Department of Education says it would be a very significant change to the current curriculum. “It’s a huge deal if they accept them,” she says in the article. “Our entire process with the writers throughout the last six months has been with the goal in mind that [the standards] would be given that weight, that they’re an essential part of a complete education.”
Andrew Girard, a representative from ArtSchools.com, a directory showcasing the best art schools in the country, says many schools are voting on the decision to cut fine arts programs from the curriculum. He applauds the state of Nebraska for fighting to renew fine arts education in public schools. “You often hear about school districts cutting visual and performing arts classes or extracurricular activities,” he says. “Instead, Nebraska realizes the importance of having these classes in the curriculum. It’s refreshing to see educators fighting to put these classes back into schools.”
Girard continues, “Students wishing to pursue a career in art should analyze all of their options. With ArtSchools.com, students can find the perfect school, where they can expand their talents and do what they love.”
