Landlords would have us believe that a lifetime of renting is now culturally acceptable in Britain, but real estate authority Rick Otton says that most people still aspire to owning their own homes. Figures published in the Daily Mail recently showed that the number of rented households in Britain has risen, in the past 10 years, from 1.9 million to 3.6 million. But rather than accept the label ‘generation renter,’ real estate authority Rick Otton is urging aspiring home owners to embrace innovative strategies to achieve their goals.

“There are many contributing factors for people’s challenges with home ownership,” said Mr Otton. “One is the inability to save for a deposit in an economic climate that sees cost of living pressures impact so much on income. Another, somewhat different, rental demographic, is that of the cashed up older person. Many of these have sold their homes and have chosen to free up the proceeds to enjoy a better lifestyle - for themselves and their families.

“This group sees little value in having all of their money tied up in their homes, and as a result having little ready cash available. They are asset-rich and cash-poor,” explained Mr Otton.

“These two sectors of population see property ownership in very different ways, but for both, I can offer strategies that will see them achieve their goals, without the prospect of paying dead money in rent each month.”

Mr Otton teaches strategies that eschew the traditional deposit-bank-mortgage model and instead embrace the concept of ‘problem solving’ - helping people who need to sell to connect with those who want to buy.
