Dundee, Scotland (PRWEB) December 19, 2013
Axis-Shield Diagnostic Limited an international provider of in vitro diagnostic reagents, announces that it has concluded a licensing, development and supply arrangement with Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, a global leader in clinical diagnostics headquartered in Tarrytown, New York, to incorporate its proprietary ActiveB12 (HoloTranscobalamin) test for the diagnosis of Vitamin B12 deficiency on the Siemens ADVIA Centaur Immunoassay System.
Vitamin B12 deficiency poses a significant public health problem; for example, in the USA, 3-6% of adults are estimated to have vitamin B12 deficiency, and globally incidence will increase as the population ages. Although the deficiency can be treated with Vitamin B12 supplements, it has been associated with the development of neurodegenerative conditions, some of which may be irreversible, and early detection can play a critical role in preventing permanent neurological damage.
