The Book Bank Foundation With Love & Hip Hop’s Saigon, the Dark Knight Rises Actor Tyler Dean, and Actor Jeantique Oriol Launched the 11th Annual Shelter from the Streets
New York, NY (PRWEB) December 22, 2013 -- On Thursday, December 19, The Book Bank Foundation (BBF) members and volunteers came together for their last signature event of 2013: the 11th annual Shelter from the Streets.
Shelter from the Streets is one of BBF's signature annual events and brings together the best in film, entertainment, sports and business to benefit the continual national homeless advocacy and literacy work of The BBF and to work tirelessly to give away donated items (i.e., books, winter clothing, blankets, personal products and toys) to the homeless and underprivileged during the Holiday Season. "The Shelter from the Streets will change your life. We help heal the forgotten, lost and lonely," says founder, Glenn Toby. Some of the notable names involved with the Shelter event in the past are 50 Cent, G-Unit, NY Jets, NY Giants, Free; former host of BET's 106 and Park, Saigon, RA the Rugged Man and more.
For this bus tour, volunteers traveled via charter bus to each location visiting shelters in four of the New York City’s boroughs (Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens, New York City) and even to the city streets to give away the remaining donated items. The bus tour began at the Atlantic Terminal, Barclay Center in Brooklyn at 10:00 am. Various celebrities, businesses, community activists and volunteers arrived to help load the bus and prepare for the trip. Television celebrity Saigon of Love and Hip Hop, actor Tyler Dean of The Dark Knight Rises and actor Jeantique Oriol assisted and spoke throughout the tour, on the bus to the volunteers, as well as at each shelter visited.
The Book Bank staff and the volunteers, spent the entire day with teenagers, women, men and children at various shelters, giving away gifts and sharing their own stories. Many shared stories of homelessness, financial difficulties, poor childhoods and the struggles they experienced in life. Sharing these stories and showing how anyone can make it, even out of the worst circumstances, was uplifting. Question and answer sessions, one-one-one mentoring, setting up future deliveries of clothing, books and other items, made for a very full and satisfying day.
Current organizations providing time, funding or donations include Pearl.com, Ivory Global Advisors, caringchiropractor.com, myartistdna.com, Vision of Art Team, Glenn Toby Enterprises, Airia Consulting and more.
The Book Bank Foundation is always seeking financial donations as well as physical donations of books, gift cards, makeup/personal items, toys and infant items for their Shelter from the Street bus tour as well as other events they hold thru-out the year. They include donors in their publicity and social media and all donations are tax deductible. Contribution enable The Book Bank Foundation to continue the fight against illiteracy, poverty, abuse, and homelessness.
About the Book Bank Foundation Inc
The Book Bank Foundation was founded by celebrity sports agent, entertainment manager, and philanthropist Glenn Toby. The Shelter from the Streets bus tour has brought national attention to the homeless flight and how it affects the youth, families and crime in New York City. It is a cause very dear to our founder, Glenn Toby, since as a youth his own family was homeless. Glenn says, "Giving back to others is as important to me as breathing." Glenn Toby has been instrumental in bringing awareness to many injustices and has authored a series of children's books that are used as educational tools.
The Book Bank Foundation is a literacy-based organization geared towards inner-city youth. With chapters in New York, Atlanta, Charlotte and Los Angeles, The Book Bank Foundation places a year around focus on the serious issue of homeless families, children and the destitute.
