Scalr Announces Enhanced Cloud Management Governance and Cost Reduction Capabilities
San Francisco, Calif (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- Scalr, providers of the leading open-source enterprise cloud management platform, today announced the release of Scalr 4.5. This new version delivers advanced capabilities that help enterprise IT departments enforce governance and control of multi-cloud environments, improving security and speeding time to market for software products while gaining infrastructure efficiencies. Expanded support for operating systems and deeper integration with popular IT automation tool Chef mean IT can choose the tools and services they prefer in order to streamline the provisioning and development process.
“Our largest enterprise clients rely on multi-cloud environments to support innovation and business agility,” says Sebastian Stadil, Scalr chief executive officer. “With Scalr, their IT teams are readily able to deliver the on-demand, self- service access to cloud environments their development teams need with the governance and control IT requires. Scalr 4.5 extends Scalr’s Governance features to deliver further access controls, policy enforcement and cost reduction capabilities.”
Software and data-driven businesses must manage and enforce policies to meet industry compliance regulations and minimize operational risk. To enforce policy, many organizations rely on complex processes and manual reviews, throttling innovation and frustrating development departments, resulting in shadow IT and increasing financial and operational risk.
Scalr 4.5 helps enterprise IT organizations deliver a self-service portal to development teams to access the cloud services they need to rapidly achieve business results while transparently enforcing IT policies and managing resources required by IT.
New features include:
Increased IT Control
Scalr 4.5 has added role based access controls that allows IT teams to restrict access to Scalr features on a per-user basis. To further IT control over infrastructure, policy enforcement for networking, virtual private cloud (VPC) and instance types have been added to Scalr Governance, which maintains control on a per-environment basis. Organizations can now prevent users from launching insecured instances outside of a VPC or using a wasteful or costly instance type based on user-role, mitigating risk.
Cost Efficiencies
Organizations can now use Scalr’s new lease management functionality to reduce cloud costs by automatically expiring unused cloud resources, ensuring they only pay for what they use.
Additional Cloud and Operating System Support
Scalr now supports all major public and private cloud platforms with the addition of Nebula and Cloudscaling OCS and has expanded to support Scientific Linux as well as Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012.
Chef Integration
Scalr 4.5 now supports Chef Roles as well as Chef-solo. Using Scalr with Chef enables IT teams to maintain control while scaling their cloud infrastructure.
