Memorial Health and Novant Health Announce Partnership for Freestanding Children’s Hospital
Savannah, GA (PRWEB) December 18, 2013 -- Officials with Memorial Health announced today a partnership with Novant Health to establish a freestanding children’s hospital in Savannah. The new facility will be named The Children’s Hospital of Savannah.
This partnership is a $28 million project that will consolidate pediatric services in the building that currently houses Memorial’s Rehabilitation Institute. The new children’s hospital will house all pediatric inpatient units, pediatric intensive care unit, a two-room surgical suite, pediatric ancillary services, a 24-hour emergency department dedicated exclusively to children, and family support space. The two organizations will share strategic planning and governance. Memorial will continue to manage operations and provide executive leadership for The Children’s Hospital of Savannah.
“Since 1992, Memorial has been the leader in children’s healthcare in southeast Georgia,” said Maggie Gill, president and CEO of Memorial Health. “This collaboration will create a new and unique presence for our children’s hospital, bringing together more than 20 pediatric subspecialties under a single roof.”
“We are excited to partner with Memorial Health to grow clinical services and create a destination location for children’s healthcare,” said Carl S. Amato president and CEO of Novant Health. “This partnership demonstrates our ongoing support of Memorial Health and Savannah.”
The Children’s Hospital provides care for approximately 65,000 children each year; more than 6,500 are inpatient admissions. There are approximately 44 general pediatricians and 35 subspecialists who treat patients at Memorial. Pediatric subspecialties include pediatric cardiology, pediatric critical care, pediatric endocrinology, pediatric ENT, pediatric gastroenterology, pediatric hematology/oncology, pediatric neurology, pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric surgery, pediatric urology, and others. The Children’s Hospital also includes the region’s only Level III neonatal intensive care nursery, staffed around the clock by board-certified neonatologists. Specialized support services for children including child life specialists and pet therapy are available as well.
Memorial’s Rehabilitation Institute inpatient services will continue to be a valuable and much needed service for patients in our region. These programs will relocate to the third floor of Memorial’s main hospital building.
