Pre-College Summer Programs in the U.S. and Abroad Now More Customizable Than Ever
Putney, VT (PRWEB) December 19, 2013 -- Putney Student Travel has modified its traditional Pre-College summer programs for high school students to create a more customizable experience for teens. Putney Pre-College programs are now available as two-week intensive seminars in Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Tuscany, and Oxford, and 3-week sessions at Amherst College in Massachusetts. Many students will still complete a four to six week, two city experience, but they now have the freedom to link any of Putney’s six global campuses and seminar programs according to their interests and summer schedules.
This new approach to meaningful Pre-College enrichment in the United States and abroad allows students more flexibility, and enables those with other summer plans to participate in a Putney Student Travel experience without committing their entire summer to the program. Students who do choose to link two Pre-College programs are granted a $1000 discounted tuition. Additional new Putney summer programs abroad for teens in 2014 include a Cultural Exploration program in Thailand, a Writing Program in Prague, a Middle School Program in Australia, a Language Immersion Program in Ecuador, and a Marine Biology Program in Belize.
“Our campus-based Pre-College programs present students with a unique opportunity to customize their summer and choose the combination of cities and seminars that suits them best,” said Putney Student Travel Co-Director Jeff Shumlin (http://goputney.com/excel). “Putney Pre-College students can combine Travel Writing in Madrid with a History of Cuisine: Italian Food & Culture seminar in Tuscany. This really opens them up to a whole new range of possibilities, and an experience specifically tailored to their unique interests and goals for the summer.”
Putney Student Travel has been a leader in high school educational travel programs since its founding in 1951. A family-run organization, Jeff and Peter Shumlin assumed leadership of Putney Student Travel from their parents over thirty years ago. Putney’s operations are run out of a restored cow barn on a dirt road in Putney, Vermont. Peter Shumlin is currently on leave as he serves his second term as the Governor of Vermont. Putney Student Travel has run campus-based, Pre-College programs that focus on topics such as writing, Economics, Photography, Fine Arts, History, and Music since 1990. Programs have been based at United States colleges and universities like Amherst College, Bennington College, Williams College, and UC Santa Cruz, and international campuses in Spain, the UK, France, Italy, Cuba, and China. Faculty members are graduate students, professors, journalists, and teachers with in-country experience and academic expertise.
Putney Student Travel Co-Director Jeff Shumlin says “More and more high school students are doing two or three things during the summer, and they want the power to mold their experience to fit their needs. Some simply don’t have the time to spend four weeks in one location, but instead would like to balance a two-week experience with a community activity in their hometown, a sports camp, or extended academic study at their school. Our Pre-College programs allow for a shorter, more intensive experience while still providing those who prefer a four week program the same experience we have provided for over 60 years.”
