In this guitar lesson, now available on, Claude Johnson teaches some basic blues guitar licks.

Claude teaches in this video lesson what he refers to as “basic blues guitar licks that every lead guitar player must know”. These licks are demonstrated in the key of B minor and are based in the B minor pentatonic scale. The first lick Johnson demonstrates uses the technique of bending. The sequence of the lick is as follows; fret the 9th fret of the 3rd string with your 3rd finger and bend that note up a whole step followed by the 7th fret of the 2nd string and then the first string with the first finger and back to the 2nd string and lastly the 10th fret of the second string with the third finger and bend up a whole step with vibrato. Next Claude shows variations on this lick by adding the 7th fret of the first string at the end and then to descend back to the 7th fret of the second string. He continues with examples of descend further down the scale using other techniques such as pull-off’s, “Lots of possibilities”, says Johnson. Claude says that these are some of the same licks that players such as Hendrix used.
