The Bahamas Will Host Its First National Carnival Style Festival in May 2015

The Commission has been given the mandate to conceptualize, organize and launch a National Festival that will seek to embrace Bahamian culture and endeavor to encompass the entire Bahamas.

"As I foreshadowed recently while in Trinidad to attend a bilateral meeting with the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping, and subsequently during the 2013-2014 Budget Debate in Parliament, The Bahamas will host its first National Carnival style Festival in April/May of 2015."

To this end a National Festival Commission has been formed, which is being chaired by Paul Major.

Mr. Robert Sands, Mr. Ed Fields, Mr. Anthony Ferguson, Mr. I. Chester Cooper, Mr. Felix Stubbs, Mr. Fred Munnings, Jr., Dr. Barry Russell, Mr. Max Gibson, Mrs. Patricia Mortimer, Mr. Obie Pindling, Mrs. Inga Bowleg, Ms. Muna Issa, Mr. Cameron Symonette,Mr. Jaime Dingman, Mr. Antonius Roberts, Ms. Shanae Strachan, Ms. Brandace Duncanson, Office of the Attorney General, Mrs. Nicola Simmons and Ms. Reagan Collie, Ministry of Tourism

Mrs. Arlene Nash Ferguson is the Chief Administrator of the Festival Commission Secretariat.

The Commission is also being provided with Technical Resources by:
Mr. Winston Cooper, Mr. Percy Francis, Mr. Arthur Gibson, Mr. Leslie Johnson, and Mr. Chris Justilien.

The Commission has been given the mandate to conceptualize, organize and launch a National Festival that will seek to embrace Bahamian culture and endeavor to encompass the entire Bahamas in such a manner that would stimulate sustainable economic opportunities for Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s).

The goal of this economically driven undertaking is to ultimately expand the Bahamian economy by creating opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship by promoting the participation of Bahamians and visitors in the Festival through the sale of costumes, musical performances, other forms of entertainment, arts, crafts, cuisine and any other creative saleable art form.
