On December 6, a new lawsuit was filed by a Brenton couple in the Circuit Court of Wyoming County (case no. 13-C-192) alleging that the woman suffered serious injuries from her Mirena IUD. The Mirena IUD, manufactured by Bayer, is an intrauterine device (IUD) that is inserted into the uterus as a contraceptive method. In the lawsuit, the plaintiff claims that she had Mirena IUD inserted in 2012 and, a few months later, it was discovered that the device had migrated into her abdominal cavity and surgical removal was required.
According to court data updated on December 16, by the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation, there are 296 cases pending in the Mirena IUD Multidistrict Litigation (MDL no. 2434, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York).
