Author and CCTV journalist Mr. Wang Yongli’s best-known novel entitled “The Hell and the World” follows a five-year-old girl after witnessing her family get murdered in 1966. The vivid depiction of the little girl’s life is Yongli’s way of teaching the virtues, morals and ethics of Chinese to an audience who likely has not read this type of story before. Yongli’s critical realism novel is written from his personal hardships, including his living through three years of starvation, the Cultural Revolution and the economic reform period. This is his fourth novel.
The story has been called a “masterpiece” and “the best story about Chinese true life.” Strategic Book Publishing and Rights Agency (SBPRA), the U.S. publisher that specializes in bringing Chinese authors’ work to a global audience, has published two books for Yongli. SBPRA submitted “The Hell and the World” to the Nobel prize committee, as well as published another of Yongli’s English novels, “Scented Apricot Flowers.”
“After meeting at the Beijing International Book Fair in 2010, we saw Wang’s ability to tell a story beautifully and we wanted to share it with the world,” said Robert Fletcher, CEO of SBPRA. “Our goal is to help our prized authors share their stories well beyond what they could have imagined and we love publishing these kinds of books from top Chinese authors.”
Purchase “The Hell and the World” on Amazon or Barnes & Noble; ebook version is forthcoming.
