Dr Tariq Drabu Implements New Safety Rules to Protect His Staff
(PRWEB) December 30, 2013 -- Tariq Drabu, Manchester dentist and owner of the leading Langley Dental Practice, was speaking recently after implementing a whole range of new measures to keep his entire team safe at work. The new improvements come in response to a recent article published by the Dentist website. The article, which can be read here, states that there are still a significant number of healthcare workers who are developing life-threatening diseases because of cuts and needlestick injuries.
Speaking recently, Tariq Drabu, from his practice in Manchester said, “While it is impossible to prevent all accidents, I have implemented a range of measures which will keep my team as safe as possible. As professional health care workers, we understand the dangers inherent while dealing with sharp instruments and needles. I have ensured that procedures such as the correct protective equipment, disposal facilities, and storage, are all in place to keep everyone as safe as possible.”
The article suggests that there are approximately 100K injuries to healthcare professionals as a result of cuts in the UK each year. Tariq Drabu, as a leading dentist in Manchester, expressed his concern at such a high figure. He said, “We must do all we can to keep our health care workers safe. This is a shocking statistic. It is naturally difficult to prevent all accidents. However, I have invested time and resources to ensure that the Langley Dental Practice team are as safe as possible.”
The article also stated that there is a 56% chance that a dental practitioner will be injured by a needlestick in a year. He went on to say in response, “I am glad that this study is highlighting the dangers that can be involved when dealing with needles and sharp instruments. I believe that many accidents happen when workers are stressed and rushed. Ensuring enough workers are on duty to cope with busy periods will reduce stressful and rushed situations that could cause accidents to happen.”
In addition to the injuries themselves, workers are exposed to potentially life-threatening diseases such as Hep B, Hep C, and HIV. This is a serious concern to all individuals who work within the health profession, and who use needles and sharp instruments on a daily basis.
Tariq Drabu, speaking from Manchester said, “The article suggests that all healthcare professionals should use safety syringes which will dramatically reduce the risks of injury from needlesticks. I also believe that safe disposal is vital. All my staff recently received full training in the health and safety procedures that have been implemented here at Langley, to ensure the safe disposal of all dangerous and hazardous medical waste.”
He closed by saying, “I will also be advising my students about the best ways to protect themselves. It is important for all healthcare professionals to be able to access the right guidance, training and help so they know how to prevent accidents, and how to deal with them if they do occur. Excellent training and timely education are the keys to achieving good health and safety standards within the medical and dental professions.”
