DARA Staff Members Visit Local Schools to Educate Children about Drug and Alcohol Abuse
(PRWEB) December 30, 2013 -- Drug and Alcohol Rehab Asia (DARA) is pleased to announce the launch of its new School Outreach Program. The program has allowed staff to reach out to young people in the community with a message of prevention. The treatment center's School Outreach Program, which began earlier this year, allows staff to visit local schools to talk to students about the dangers of substance abuse and what they can do to prevent it.
The School Outreach Program is lead by DARA staff members and program directors. The goal of the project is to help raise awareness for substance abuse in the community and help prevent it. As part of the program, speakers give presentations to school children about drug and alcohol abuse and mental health, and the importance of getting help for addiction.
With the help of local law enforcement and other leaders in the community, DARA is using this program to prevent substance abuse in the local community. The staff at DARA uses fun challenges and physical activities along with their presentations to help reinforce their message at the schools. The personal trainer and fitness training instructor of DARA are often a part of the School Outreach Program, getting children actively involved in healthy activities.
The staff at DARA knows that prevention is a message that everyone must hear, but it is especially effective when presented to children. According to DARA, when education and prevention campaigns are geared toward school children, there is a much better chance that these young people will avoid substance abuse as they get older.
The program has been a success already, according to project coordinator, Ying Limsiritrakul. Ying is a Thai counselor at DARA, and is excited to see the impact their program is having on local children. "Because of this program, the students understand how negative perceptions of seeking help have stopped people from getting treatment. The students enjoy the activity during our presentation and report that they learn a lot from the lectures. The students and school faculties appreciate the staff of DARA and ask us to come every year to continue to educate the students about drugs and alcohol."
