Piedmont "Pet" Mayor Contest Winners Announced for 2013
Oakland, Calif. (PRWEB) July 26, 2013 -- The Pet and Wildlife Fund announced the winner of the 2013 Piedmont Pet Mayor Contest: Rosy, a dog sponsored by Kids into Speaking Spanish Pre-School. Despite Rosy having three legs, this didn't stop her from winning the title of the 2013 Piedmont Pet Mayor!
Rosy is succeeding Zion, a Yorkie from Fenton's Creamery, the 2011 Pet Mayor. The Vice Mayor for 2013, Keelah, a Terrier Mix, sponsored by Fenton's Creamery, was a first time candidate this year, and Riley, a Chug Weenie sponsored by Wine on Piedmont rounds out the three cabinet panel assuming duties as Treat Patrol Officer.
Other candidates for the mayoral race included:
Mini, an English Bulldog sponsored by The Pet Concierge
Ballari, a Siberian Husky sponsored by Black Swan Books
Nala, a Bit Bull Mix sponsored by Holistic Veterinary Care
Sunny, a mix breed cat sponsored by Peet's Coffee and Tea
Leo, a Shih tzu sponsored by Pet & Wildlife Fund
Baby Boi, a Chihuahua / Terrier Mix sponsored by Bella Ceramica
“We are thrilled to raise over $13,000 in the pet mayor contest this year,” said Dr. Gary Richter, Montclair Veterinary Hospital Medical Director. “The proceeds from the contest support the activities of The Pet and Wildlife Fund. Last year alone, we donated nearly $100,000 worth of veterinary care to help injured wildlife ranging from foxes and opossums, to crows and rabbits.”
Since 2004, "Pet" mayoral candidates have raised both votes and money – more than $65,000 so far -- for The Pet & Wildlife Fund. Veterinarians dedicate their time and expertise to help injured wildlife found by East Bay community members. The Pet & Wildlife Fund discounts services to pets owned by several local schools, community groups and rescue organizations.
Candidates are sponsored by local businesses. For additional information and to view photos of the candidates, please visit http://www.PetandWildlifeFund.org.
