Havering College courts top London law firms for a successful day of recruitment
Hornchurch, Greater London (PRWEB UK) 19 July 2013 -- The college in Hornchurch, Essex, has revealed its impressive track record in securing student placements at top London law firms.
College alumni now working for international companies returned with their employers to the Ardleigh Green Campus to inspire the next cohort of potential recruits.
Nine employers – including elite "magic circle" firms such as Clifford Chance, Eversheds, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and Weil Gotshall Manges - supported an enrichment day for students currently on the ILEX Legal Secretaries course.
The recruiters ran a series of realistic exercises for students covering CVs, interviews and job roles.
There were presentations from former students enjoying exciting, well paid careers in the London offices of international law giants.
Among them were qualified PA Lucy Goldstone, 23, from Romford, and trainee PA Alice Ring who attended with their managers from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.
Rainham resident Alice, 21, said: “I now work for 10 people including one senior associate. My day usually consists of answering the phone and taking messages, billing, arranging meetings and events, booking taxis and lunch/dinner reservations. Each PA also has their own team tasks.
“My favourite part of the job is organising client events and team social events. Our client summer party was held at the Gherkin in 2012 which was amazing. I also helped to organise a conference with another PA which was held in Berlin. We were also lucky enough to go to Berlin to help out with the conference. It was really exciting as I met a lot of people.
“It’s hard to believe from where I am now that two years ago I was completing my course at Havering College. It just goes to show that if you try hard and put yourself out you can do what you want.”
Other companies who supported the event included Herbert Smith Freehills, Laytons Solicitors, Moss & Coleman, Shearman & Sterling and Sanders Witherspoon,. There were also presentations from the Law Support recruitment agency and The Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.
Havering College curriculum manager for ILEX Legal Secretaries courses, Javia Denton said: “The enrichment day was a complete success. It was exciting, interesting and inspirational to hear the achievements of former students. We would like to say a massive thank you to all the companies who took part.”
