A Recent Study Tests Vitamin D Supplementation During Pregnancy
Murrieta, CA (PRWEB) July 03, 2013 -- A study entitled “Vitamin D requirement in pregnancy to prevent deficiency in neonates: a randomised trial” was published in the May 2013 edition of the Singapore Medical Journal. This study aimed to “determine the optimal dose of Vitamin D necessary during pregnancy” to avoid a deficiency in the baby. Vitamin D deficiency is a major problem around the world and pregnant women may be at an increased risk for it. Liquid Health manufactures a Vitamin D supplement to help people avoid problems associated with this deficiency.
The participants in this study were divided into 3 groups and given varying doses of Vitamin D during their second trimester of pregnancy. Blood levels of Vitamin D were taken when the baby was born to determine if a deficiency was present. The study concluded that levels of Vitamin D needed to exceed 50,000IU per month in order to successfully avoid a deficiency in the baby at the time of birth.
“Vitamin D deficiency has been a huge problem for a long time. We know that exclusively breastfed babies are at a higher risk of being deficient in Vitamin D, so it makes sense that the problem would extend to the time of pregnancy as well,” says Rob Bonham, Director of Online Marketing for Liquid Health, Inc., “We're happy to provide a liquid Vitamin D supplement that can help to reduce the symptoms and side effects associated with Vitamin D deficiency.”
There are a number of consequences to a baby if the mother is deficient in Vitamin D during pregnancy. These can include: prematurity, low birth weight and lower bone density. Liquid Health's Vitamin D3 supplement contains 1000 IU of D3 per serving. Vitamin D3 was used in this product because studies have shown it to have higher bioavailability than Vitamin D2.
