Yourwellness Magazine Follows Up Alzheimer’s and Common Drugs Study
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 13 July 2013 -- According to a new study, published online June 6th in the journal PLoS One, multiple drug classes commonly prescribed for common medical conditions are capable of influencing the onset and progression of Alzheimer's disease. Researchers at The Mount Sinai Medical Centre found that currently-available medications prescribed for conditions such as hypertension, depression, and insomnia were found to either to block or to enhance the accumulation of beta-amyloid, the component of amyloid plaques. The Alzheimer’s Society explains that, during the course of Alzheimer’s disease, protein 'plaques' and 'tangles' develop in the structure of the brain, leading to the death of brain cells. People with Alzheimer's also have a shortage of certain important chemicals in their brain, which are usually involved with the brain’s transmission of messages. The Alzheimer’s Society notes age, genetic inheritance, environmental factors, lifestyle and overall general health as possibly responsible for Alzheimer’s Disease. With this in mind, Yourwellness Magazine investigated a natural solution for Alzheimer’s patients. According to Yourwellness Magazine, ‘Of the complementary cures thought to have a helpful effect, coconut oil may prove to be a helpful supplement. Dr. Mary Newport provides anecdotal evidence to this effect, in her book about the helpful effect played by coconut oil in treating her husband.’
Yourwellness Magazine reported that, in her book Alzheimer's Disease: What If There Was A Cure?, Dr. Newport considers that Alzeimer’s is a kind of diabetes of the brain, where the brain is unable to metabolise enough sugar to survive. As this goes on, brain cells start to whither and die, producing the symptoms of dementia. Ketones are an alternative form of ‘brain energy’ that can stimulate the growth of new brain cells. Yourwellness Magazine explained that good quality organic coconut oil contains 63% medium chain fatty acids, which are converted into ketones in the body, making coconut oil an abundant source of energy for the brain.
