Going Home to Kansas Leads Author to The One Place She Never Thought She Would Go
McPherson, KS (PRWEB) July 01, 2013 -- If you asked Dixie Gillaspie, Sound Wisdom Publishing author of the recently released book, “Just Blow It Up: Firepower for Living an Unlimited Life,” the last place she would ever want to be asked to speak, she might well have answered, “a church”.
Raised within a cult whose members met for worship in homes rather than church buildings, Gillaspie had never been to a church service except for weddings and funerals.
“I was surprised, and reluctant, when Annette Karr, who is a fellow author and friend, asked me to deliver the Mother’s Day message for The First Congregational Church (McPherson, KS),” said Gillaspie. “My first thought was ‘I can’t do that’, especially on Mother’s Day. I’m not a minister or a mother. I don’t even know what a normal church service is like, so it seemed impossible that I had anything relevant to say in that place, on that day.”
Gillaspie knew she had to rethink her response, and live up to the message of her book. The whole basis of which is a practical, how-to approach for how to accomplish and do anything an individual wants to do.
During the service, Gillaspie admitted to the congregation that speaking that morning wasn’t something she really wanted to do, but something she felt called to do.
“Speaking in a church about following a calling made me realize that I have far more to share than advice and inspiration for entrepreneurs," Gillaspie said, “I know my own success is due, in large part, to my own inner spiritual work, but it wasn’t something I’d ever believed I could share with an audience. Now I understand that by not sharing that part of my journey I’ve been holding back the greatest of my success factors.”
In addition to her presentation at the First Congregational Church of McPherson Sunday morning, Gillaspie was part of the McPherson County All Schools Day Parade along with Karr and her celebrity dog, Wink the One-Eyed Wonder. She also did a book signing at The Bookshelf, and traveled to Wichita to deliver books donated by Sound Wisdom, to St. Francis Hospital and the nearby Ronald McDonald House.
Raised in Fredonia, Kansas, Gillaspie has lived for more than 15-years in St. Louis, MO. Her ties to McPherson began nearly 20-years ago when she was hired as a management consultant by Dr. William Payne. She is a speaker and international coach, business consultant, analyst and change agent to entrepreneurs and business leaders. In addition to authoring “Just Blow It Up,” Dixie is a co-author of “The Thought That Changed My Life Forever.”
