Wahaka® Mezcal Announces USDA Organic Certification for Full Product Line
AUSTIN, TX (PRWEB) July 09, 2013 -- Following a strong US launch in 2012, Wahaka Mezcal is proud to announce that it has completed the 100% Organic certification for its artisanal line of mezcales. Although Wahaka Mezcal’s products have always been 100% organic, its upcoming production, on sale in US in July 2013, will now officially carry the USDA Organic seal of approval.
Wahaka Mezcal has always met and exceeded the requirements for the USDA Organic certification and have now completed all the requirements to satisfy the highest level of organic certification offered by the United States Department of Agriculture – both for its fields and its production line. Unlike other mezcales, Wahaka Mezcal owns its own agave fields and produces its mezcales at a single distillery run by 5th generation maestro mezcalero Alberto Morales. This end-to-end, single source ensures compliance to the stringent certification requirements batch after batch, year after year.
“Organic for Wahaka means sustainability as we use no fertilizer sludge in our fields and also purity as we use no chemicals or accelerants in our distillation”, said Alejandro Santa Cruz, CEO and co-founder of Wahaka Mezcal. “But, above all, it is yet another indicator of the true quality of Wahaka Mezcal for our fans and consumers.”
Wahaka Mezcal’s has made some exciting changes to their upcoming production. The Signature line made up of the wild agave varieties of Joven Tobalá and Joven Madre Cuishe are now bottled at 42% alcohol by volume. Wahaka Mezcal will be also selling a 5-pack of 200ml sampler size bottles with one of each variety. “This new packaging will give our customers an inexpensive way to taste all our varieties which, in and of itself, serves as a great introduction to the varied universe of mezcal,” added Santa Cruz.
In addition to the organic certification, Wahaka Mezcal has recently made major inroads in the market. Wahaka Mezcal has secured placement with top tier distributor Pioneer Wine Company (http://www.pioneerwine.com) in Texas enabling to expand from its base in Austin to the other major Texas markets – Houston and Dallas. Wahaka Mezcal will be participating in the Fall Wine tours put on by Pioneer in those major Texan cities.
Accolades and industry recognition also continue to pour in as Wahaka Mezcal was featured in chef Rick Bayless’ recent book “Frontera: Margaritas, Guacamoles, and Snacks”, in Lucinda Hutson's new book “Viva Tequila!: Cocktails, Cooking, and Other Agave Adventures”, and on many episodes of MotoChefs (http://www.utilisima.com/motochefs), the reality TV show detailing the travels by motorcycle of chefs Aquiles Chavez and Aaron Sanchez.
