Chain of Bathhouses Successfully Captures the Club Atmosphere

Steamworks Baths, a chain of men-only bathhouses across North America, launched its newly designed website and logo today.

The new brand identity reflects the more than 35 years Steamworks Baths has been in business, starting from its first location opened in 1976 in Berkeley, Calif. The logo redesign puts a fresh spin on the familiar “pipefitting” icon that has always been central to the bathhouse’s identity. Creative B’stro, a San Francisco design agency, developed both the logo and website.

“With this rebranding, we are reflecting on our legacy of serving the community, and it’s familiar to our many customers. However, our new brand is also distinctly modern and fresh,” said Curtis Jensen, director of marketing and graphics for Steamworks Baths. “The new logo and website are the result of months of teamwork between our team and the outstanding designers at Creative B’stro. We’re excited for this launch and invite people to come and check it out.”

The refreshed logo features the familiar pipefitting icon, now accompanied by a stacked splitting of the word “Steamworks,” allowing for a more modern visual impact. The logo also now includes the word “Baths,” providing more clarity into the business and the services it offers.

Complementing the logo is the redesigned website, which offers a better user experience and complete mobile usability. It also evokes features common to all Steamworks Baths clubs, including a masculine, industrial design, a unique energy and even the music that’s typically played at all of the bathhouse’s locations.

In addition, the site includes photos from all of Steamworks Baths’ clubs, including Chicago, Toronto, Berkeley, Seattle and Vancouver.

“Our challenge was to communicate the true club environment and the atmosphere you experience when you go to a Steamworks Baths,” said Brian Short, the project manager. “The photography was tricky, but we’re very proud of the way the photos turned out. The combination of images, music and overall usability make for an exceptional website.”
