Healthy Workplace Recognition Program Honors San Antonio Marketing Agency esd and associates With Citywide Gold Award
San Antonio, Texas (PRWEB) July 02, 2013 -- esd and associates, San Antonio’s leading digital creative agency, has long taken the health and wellness of employees seriously, recently earning the Gold Recognition in the 2013 Healthy Workplace Recognition Program (HWRP).
"esd values the health of our employees, and we all work together to find a variety of ways to encourage choices focused on wellness," said Erik Simpson, esd founding partner. “We’re honored to receive such recognition from our city, validating all the hard work that our team has invested in promoting a healthier workplace.”
The San Antonio Business Group on Health (SABGH) created the Healthy Workplace Recognition Program in collaboration with the Mayor’s Fitness Council to promote local employers’ efforts toward a healthy workforce. The HWRP assesses employee wellness programs in the areas of organizational culture, health promotion and education, physical activity, nutrition, smoking and tobacco use, and health benefits design.
Among other healthy activities, esd organizes company bike rides and reimburses employees for entry fees to official 5K runs, triathlons, and cycling races. In addition to cycling to the office almost daily, Simpson has competed in more than 15 triathlons, two Ironman competitions and the Leadville Trail 100. Following his example, employees have decided to develop and advance their own personal fitness goals.
“The workplace camaraderie in preparing for a competitive run goes a long way in building teamwork that ultimately helps our clients,” said Jennie Simison, an esd graphic designer who has been reimbursed for two 5Ks, a half-marathon and a triathlon.
As a tobacco-free workplace, esd also provides information to the Texas Quitline in addition to brochures on quitting smoking, and its healthcare provider covers smoking cessation medications.
Additionally, esd employees are playing an active role in promoting and volunteering with the Fit Family Challenge, a 12-week summer program designed to motivate families to get active, eat better, and learn about health and fitness. Now in its fourth year, Fit Family Challenge is funded through a grant from the Kronkosky Charitable Foundation and support from key corporate and civic partners.
“If our employees aren’t bringing their families by to participate in Fit Family Challenge activities, they are volunteering to help at the events or promoting the program across San Antonio,” Simpson said.
The SABGH partners with the Mayor’s Fitness Council to improve the health of the San Antonio workforce and provide the business community with opportunities to network, discuss best practices, and promote worksite wellness initiatives.
