It’s clear that quality home care can have a profound impact on the health and wellbeing of a person discharged from the hospital

It is estimated that people over the age of 65 will make up nearly a quarter of San Francisco’s population by 2030, twice the senior population’s size today. To address the needs of this demographic, Nurse Next Door, a thriving home healthcare franchise system, is continuing a rapid California expansion with the launch of their fifth location in the state in San Francisco.

Locally owned and operated, Nurse Next Door’s San Francisco office will provide a full spectrum of home care services, ranging from weekly caring companionship to around-the-clock care, while helping local seniors get back to doing the things they love.

“We are excited to not only meet the clinical needs of local seniors in their own homes,” said Nurse Next Door’s San Francisco owner, Chan Chu, “but also to help our clients celebrate aging.”

Chan expects an influx of clients as a result of the Affordable Care Act, as other Nurse Next Door offices across California have seen.

“Hospitals are starting to rely on home care providers to keep readmission rates below the new standards to avoid penalties,” said Chu. “Nurse Next Door’s patient centered home-care services are proving to be a great option to keep people healthy at home.”

A study of over 5 million hospital patients found that nearly 18 percent of seniors who are hospitalized are readmitted within 30 days of discharge. Only 6 percent of clients of Nurse Next Door who were discharged from the hospital were readmitted within 30 days.

“It’s clear that quality home care can have a profound impact on the health and well-being of a person discharged from the hospital,” said Chu. “I have seen the opportunity in filling the health care gaps for our aging population grow over the past few years and I’m proud to be part of the care solution.”
