Pro Player Health Alliance Is Helping America Lose Weight Through Treating Sleep Apnea
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) July 01, 2013 -- While sleep apnea itself is not dangerous, it can be the cause of very serious health risks such as heart attack, stroke, diabetes, lowered immune system and many others. David Gergen, President of Pro Player Health Alliance (PPHA) and Gergen's Orthodontic Lab, has set out on a mission to to educate the public on easy treatments available for the sleep disorder known as the "Silent Killer". By teaming up with NFL legends and elite organizations such as the NFL's HOPE Program sponsored by Covidien along with the Retired Players Association, PPHA is determined to improve the overall health of former professional athletes as well as the general public. Mr. Gergen says, "I believe by doing these events and screenings we are saving lives."
The HOPE program is an obesity management awareness program aimed at healthy lifestyles and weight management for retired professional football players. NFL players are more likely to have cardiovascular and other health problems than smaller sized men.
In 2009, researchers from Sweden's Karolinska Institute showed that overweight and obese men who lost weight on a severely calorie restricted diet over nine weeks had big improvements in their sleep apnea symptoms. On the other hand, treating sleep apnea can be a huge factor in managing the weight of an individual particularly in reducing body weight from an unhealthy state by giving a way for more energy during the day. By staying active, one is able to burn more calories and keep their weight at a manageable size.
