Children, Corporate History Could Complicate Murdoch-Deng Divorce
(PRWEB) July 02, 2013 -- Hours after media baron Rupert Murdoch, filed for divorce from his wife Wendi Deng, rumors about the breakup spread through the media. Divorce lawyer James Tenn says that regardless of the causes of the divorce, it appears that the parties planned ahead with a pre-nuptial agreement according to USA Today (6.14.13).
Murdoch, 82, is the head of a vast media empire that includes, among others, Fox Television, HarperCollins publishing, and the Wall Street Journal. Forbes has estimated his fortune at $11.2 billion.
Tenn is a divorce attorney and the founder of the New Hampshire law firm Tenn And Tenn, P.A. He says that the couple’s pre-nuptial agreement will likely dictate the terms of the divorce.
“Media reports indicate that a prenuptial agreement was signed by the parties.” Although such agreements are sometimes overturned, it is unlikely that the prenuptial agreement here will be struck down. “Media reports also indicate that the parties’ prenuptial agreement has been updated at least a few times over the years,” says Tenn.
As a result, he believes it may not be possible for the wife to challenge the agreement on the basis that it does not accurately reflect “the deal” between the parties, as it evolved with the marriage to reflect their agreement and account for the specific circumstances of each of them. In that circumstance, the prenuptial agreement is likely to stand.
