Olympic Lodge in Port Angeles, Washington, Releases Tip Sheet of Top Pacific Northwest Day Trips
Port Angeles, Washington (PRWEB) July 11, 2013 -- Located at the very tip of Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, Port Angeles makes the perfect base for exploring the surrounding Pacific Northwest. The city is nestled between the shores of the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the towering Olympic Mountains – providing ample opportunities for dramatic sightseeing and outdoor adventure. The Olympic Lodge, ranked #1 hotel for Port Angeles, Wash., on TripAdvisor, has released a tip sheet announcing favorite area day trips drawn from its staff’s expert insider knowledge of the area.
"In Port Angeles, in 24 hours you can hike an inland mountain trail in the morning and sail over the saltwater strait – literally to another country – that afternoon," says Olympic Lodge General Manager Holly Dempsey. "There are so many great opportunities, and our staff members draw on their extensive personal experience to help guests narrow down the choices."
The Olympic Lodge staff’s favorite day-trip destinations include:
• Olympic National Park: Port Angeles is headquarters for the more than 900,000 acres of Olympic National Park, with its glacier-clad peaks, hiking trails, and alpine meadows, lakes and breathtaking views of the Strait. The mile-high crest of Hurricane Ridge is an easy 17-mile drive. Visitors must purchase a $15 parks pass to enter but the pass is good for seven days.
• Lake Crescent: Just 17 miles west of Port Angeles lies this crystal clear, 12-mile-long glacier-carved lake. Renowned for its hiking, this section of Olympic National Park includes a hike through moss-covered tress and large ferns to the spectacular Marymere Falls.
• Rialto Beach: Rialto Beach, 75 miles west of Port Angeles and slightly north of the Quillayute River, is one of the few drive-to beaches in the area. Visitors savor the spot for its surf and wildlife, a place to watch shorebirds, eagles and seals.
• Strait of Juan de Fuca Scenic Byway: Begun in the 19th century as a series of interconnecting trails, this notably scenic section of Highway 112 begins just outside of Port Angeles and follows the shore west to its end at Cape Flattery, the northwestern-most point of the contiguous United States. Stop here for a three-quarter-mile hike to a magnificent view of the Cape Flattery Lighthouse.
• The Coho Ferry to Victoria: For some it’s a commute; for others, an adventure. Linking Victoria, B.C., on Vancouver Island with Port Angeles, Wash., the passenger-and-vehicle M.V. Coho Ferry provides year round daily service. The hour-and-a-half crossing allows ample time to watch the marine wildlife or visit the ship’s shops.
Company Information: The Olympic Lodge offers easy access to downtown Port Angeles. Its facilities and amenities include new, fluffy duvets, widescreen televisions and a year-round heated pool and spa with views of the Olympic Mountains.
