Patriotic Charity has Boston Seeing Red, White and Bluebloods for WishGivers.org Fundraiser
Boston, MA (PRWEB) July 02, 2013 -- Boston’s elite are coming out in support of WishGivers.org, a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization that helps the critically ill children of America’s military, police and firefighters. On August 2, 2013 Wishgivers.org is holding a $1000-a-head fundraiser on board John F. Kennedy’s presidential yacht, The Honey Fitz.
Boston’s wealthy will get a chance to hobnob with celebrity supporters like Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, James Spader, Peter Max, and Mark Wahlberg who are among the A-listers invited. The sunset dinner cruise around Boston Harbor is being called “The Camelot Cruise”, a reference to the era of optimism associated with Kennedy’s presidency.
WishGivers.org was founded by PJ Schrantz, a retired NYC fireman who was a first-responder on September 11, 2001. While Schrantz was fighting fires at Ground Zero his five-year-old son, Dustin, was fighting leukemia in a children’s hospital. At age seven Dustin died in his father’s arms. Out of his grief, WishGivers.org was born.
“I was helpless to save Dustin but now I have the privilege of helping other firefighters, police and military men and women save their kids,” said Schrantz.
The charity is primarily supported by what Schrantz calls "everyday heroes" who contribute $3 a week to the WishGivers.org Feel-Good Friday movement. "Usually when we give to charity we have no idea who our money is actually benefiting, but every Friday WishGivers.org supporters get an email showing them the faces of the kids and families their $3 is helping. It really does make you feel good on Fridays to know that your small donation is making a huge difference," said Schrantz.
Proceeds from the Camelot Cruise will be used to bring art supplies to Boston Children’s Hospital and help the two-year-old son of a Boston-area fireman who is battling leukemia.
