Annapolis Mixed Martial Arts school, Ivey League MMA Hosts First Muay Thai Kickboxing Test of 2013
Annapolis, MD (PRWEB) July 01, 2013 -- This past Saturday, June 29th, was an important day for Ivey League Mixed Martial Arts and its students, when the MMA school, based in Annapolis, Maryland, hosted its first Level 1 Muay Thai test of 2013. This test usually takes place twice per year.
Muay Thai Kickboxing, sometimes called "Thai Boxing", is a martial art that originated in Thailand. This physical and mental discipline is often referred to as "the art of eight limbs" because it is characterized by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees, and shins/feet, which makes a full-contact fight very efficient. That same effectiveness has been seen time and time again in popular martial arts events, such as the UFC and K-1 Fighting Championships.
Muay Thai is the primary style of striking that Ivey League teaches. In order to assess their skills, students are tested periodically and acknowledged for their proficiency at a given level. Ivey League maintains 5 levels of ranking, and for all new/incoming students, Level 1 comes first. Students pursuing the rank of Level 1 are tested on the basic Muay Thai skills that are the foundation for all future advancements within this complex fighting art.
The goal for the instructors is to have every student ready to test their Level 1 skills within 3-4 months. Not everyone progresses at the exact same pace, but those who attend classes consistently and train seriously are always more than ready for the challenge. Students are graded on their comprehension and execution of the techniques taught in the Muay Thai Kickboxing fundamentals training course.
The 16 students who tested on Saturday were assessed on the skills that they have been working on for the past four months. Techniques such as the round kick, knee strike, jab, and right cross punch were all covered, with special attention given to the correct footwork and follow-through. Many of the students came from areas like Bowie, Millersville and Prince George’s County. Ivey League attracts a diverse population of people who are all seeking something in common: 100% genuine Muay Thai Kickboxing.
The results of this weekend’s testing are in: no failing grades! All 16 students passed easily, graduating to their new rank of Level 1 in Muay Thai Kickboxing.
Ivey League head instructor Danny Ives said that he is "highly impressed" with the ability shown by these up and coming students. He feels like this is the best overall group yet tested, which speaks volumes about the progression of not only these particular students, but the school as a whole. He hopes that this same group will be ready to take the Level 2 test sometime next year, along with some previous Level 1 graduates who are also ready to move up the ranks.
Ives said that in the end, the ideal is for every single student to move steadily up the ladder, with the ultimate goal of one day making it to Level 5. Time will tell who has what it takes… Ivey League MMA wishes them all the best as they continue their quest toward Muay Thai mastery!
