Atlanta (PRWEB) July 02, 2013

Preparis, an innovative business continuity and life safety technology company, is hosting a free interactive webinar, “Business Continuity During Blackouts”, on Tuesday, July 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. EST. The power outages experienced during Superstorm Sandy demonstrated how many businesses and buildings are unprepared for what to do in the event of a blackout or the impact it can have on their revenue streams.

To help organizations prepare for the threat of a power outage, Preparis is presenting this webinar session, featuring guest speaker Janet Liebsch from the U.S. First Responder’s Association (USFRA). The USFRA brings together personnel from many diverse fields where they can share their knowledge and expertise with the focus primarily on threat training, tactics, safety, education and community outreach

“Superstorm Sandy heightened awareness of what can happen when a natural disaster causes major blackouts,” said Liebsch, Executive Vice-President and Disaster Information Specialist for the USFRA. “More than 8 million customers lost power for several days, and hundreds of thousands of businesses and residents waited over two weeks for service to be restored. Preparis offers many resources and tools to help businesses prepare for and recover from disasters and emergencies of all kinds,” continued Liebsch. “I am proud and honored to be part of the Preparis team for this webinar.”

The session will include discussion around methodology for developing a preparedness plan for responding to blackouts, identifying needs for alternative power resources, best practices for backing up critical files via cloud-based technology and resources and tools to help manage unexpected events such as blackouts

“During periods of extreme weather, especially in the hot summer months, the possibility of blackouts increases. Even when not associated with other crisis events such as Hurricane Sandy, blackouts pose significant operational challenges for businesses,” said Nate Kristy, VP of Marketing for Preparis. “Our goal with our webinars is to keep our clients and guests educated on ways to keep their people safe and their businesses running when crises occur, so this topic should be top of mind for many as we head into the hottest days of summer.”
