TRX Systems Welcomes Major General Julian Burns (ret) to Advisory Board
Greenbelt, MD (PRWEB) July 09, 2013 -- TRX Systems, the developer of the NEON Indoor Location System, has welcomed retired Major General JB Burns to the company’s advisory board. General Burns will use his expansive and distinguished global military experience to provide TRX with strategy, business development, and program support to guide development and deployment of NEON in support of warfighters training and operating in GPS-denied areas.
“TRX is filling a critical gap by providing improved situational awareness to our ground forces in areas where GPS does not work such as indoors and underground or areas where it has been intentionally jammed,” said Maj General Burns. “The company has impressive engagement within the US Army, DHS, DARPA and the private sector.”
Maj General Burns will help TRX support delivery of enhanced situational awareness, improved command effectiveness, and increased training realism for dismounted personnel operating in GPS-denied environments. Specifically, he will focus on providing TRX with counsel on company development and activities within defense sectors.
“Major General Burns brings a tremendous wealth of real-world experience and knowledge to our team,” said Carol Politi, President and CEO of TRX Systems. “We look forward to closely collaborating with him as we develop technologies to support the warfighter.”
NEON uses TRX sensor fusion and mapping to correlate information from a broad array of sensors, including magnetic, ranging, inertial, light, pressure, RF and GPS. This information is combined with both known and dynamically discovered map information to deliver location for personnel inside buildings or underground (in caves, tunnels or subway stations, for example).
Burns, a member of the The SPECTRUM Group, served for eight years as Vice President for Land and Armaments, BAE, for Marine, Army, Navy, and SOF ground and weapons systems in the UK, USA, Sweden, and South Africa, and in global FMS sales, recently in SWA and LATAM. Previously, he devoted 35 years to active Army service in Europe, Korea, SWA and CONUS. Burns served on active duty as Chief of Staff, Chief of Ops, and Deputy Commanding General for the 750,000 strong FORSCOM through 2004 and as Commanding General of a Joint Task Force in Israel.
A published author and frequent speaker, Burns holds a BS from USMA, West Point, and an MS in ORSA/Management from the University of Southern California. He is a graduate of RANGER, Airborne and the US War College.
