Explore Tibet Announces Trekking Adventure to Tibet’s Oldest Monastery
(PRWEB) July 02, 2013 -- Explore Tibet, a Lhasa-based Tibet tour company, is now offering a trekking journey from Ganden to Samye monasteries. The 10-day trip includes a visit to Lhasa, capital of Tibet; the whole trip will be sponsored by global online retailer Fairy Gift.
“This is one of the most challenging trekking adventures in Tibet, crossing the steep Shugar La pass (5250m) and Chitul La pass (5210m),” Explore Tibet said.
Samye Monastery was the first Buddhist Monastery built in Tibet. Laid out in the shape of a giant mandala, the main temple represents the legendary Mount Meru in the centre. Other buildings stand at the corners and cardinal points of the main temple, representing continents and other features of tantric Buddhist cosmology.
Ganden Monastery, meanwhile, is one of the great three Gelukpa university monasteries of Tibet, located at the top of Wangbur Mountain, 36 kilometres east of Potala Palace in Lhasa, and at an altitude of 4,300 metres.
Along the trekking trail are alpine green valleys and grassland, where nomad families live in black tents and tend their herds. The rocky surrounding area is home for herds of wild goats. At the end of May, the valley blooms with rhododendrons.
Explore Tibet is a locally owned Tibet travel agency committed to responsible tourism, Tibetan travel permit and sustainable practice.
