Machine-Like Performance in Skateboarding Receives Guinness World Record™ Status for Performance at The International Distance Skateboard Association Ultraskate
Miami, FL (PRWEB) July 25, 2013 -- Some say it’s G-d’s gift to humanity, others call it talent; Andy “La Maquina [The Machine]” Andras performed a flawless and methodical athletic accomplishment at the Homestead Miami Speedway in January by skating 261.8 miles in 24-hours. The jaw dropping performance impressed the skateboard industry as he shattered the former World Record of 252 Miles by World Renown Distance Skateboarder Paul Kent. After careful review and authentication, Guinness™ has accepted and approved the record. The record is arguably one of the greatest accomplishments in the Endurance Sports segment hence Andras’ nickname, La Maquina (‘The Machine’), coined by Scott Moore, the owner of Subsonic Skateboards, La Maquina’s main board sponsor.
How challenging is it to ride this great a distance? The former world record performance by Kent left him sidelined for weeks with Kidney Failure and Excess Fatigue. Nobody thought the Record would ever be broken.
Andras, however, has proved that records are made to be broken. His skate into the Guinness World Record™ book was not easy; only perfect preparation, a well-executed plan, and a big heart provided just enough to shatter the record as Andras did.
For almost a year, Andras, 37, skated on his board for several hours daily, to train both legs to push equally, perfected his skateboard set up to maximize efficiency, started to recognize what foods helped his body perform better, eliminated alcohol, caffeine, and sugar from his social diet, and committed to perform an unthinkable task.
He fought through sleep deprivation, he practiced urine and bowel control, knew exactly how to avoid dehydration, and what supplements would avoid an upset stomach. Most importantly, Andras walked away from the accomplishment without an injury, ready to continue his journey to be recognized as one of the greatest distance skateboarders of all time by the sport’s Official World Governing Body, The International Distance Skateboard Association (The IDSA).
This is not the end of Andras’ career, he expects to beat his record next January once again to continue to be the reigning World UltraSkate Champion. Not only has this sparked this new sport of distance skateboarding, it has created a surge of skateboard races, clinics, and awareness across the United States and the rest of the World.
