A new Xpress Storage facility, which utilizes a kiosk to permit rentals 24 hours a day, has opened in Parrish at U.S. 301 and Old Tampa Road, according to Steve Wilson, a veteran developer of self-storage facilities in Southwest Florida. He said the new facility has nearly 400 separate storage spaces, both traditional drive-up garage spaces and also air conditioned storage spaces.

It is the second innovative Xpress Storage that Wilson has developed in the Manatee and Sarasota area. The first is on Fruitville Road one mile east of I-75 which opened in 2010.

The Parrish facility opened in early June, and is owned by the Hide-Away Storage LLC and other private investors. Wilson is the managing partner of Hide-Away Storage which also owns 10 other self-storage facilities in Bradenton, Sarasota, Ellenton, St Petersburg, Ft Myers and Naples. The Xpress Storage facilities also are smaller and located closer to residential areas than typical self-storage developments. Most successful self-storage facilities have a minimum of about 70,000 s.f. of storage, whereas the Xpress Storage in Parrish is about 40,000 s.f., and the one on Fruitville Road is about 36,000 s.f.

The Fruitville and Parrish Xpress Storage facilities are among the very few self-storage businesses to be developed in the Manatee and Sarasota area since the Great Recession. Wilson said he plans to continue developing more Xpress Storage facilities.
