Today, Mary Hesdorffer, nurse practitioner and executive director of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation will be speaking at the annual asbestos seminar of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Occupational Safety and Health in the House of Commons.
Ms. Hesdorffer is a widely published and highly regarded mesothelioma expert, with over 15 years' experience treating mesothelioma patients. She has testified before Congress multiple times on the need for an increased federal investment in mesothelioma in the United States.

Ms. Hesdorffer joins an esteemed panel featuring a mesothelioma patient, a union representative, a mesothelioma physician and a member of the Welsh Assembly. The objective of the meeting is to keep asbestos issues, including the need for increased funding for mesothelioma research high on the agenda of the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
“The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation serves the international community and this trip will strengthen the collaborative nature of our relationships,” continues Ms. Hesdorffer.
The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation has independently funded over $8.2 million in peer-reviewed mesothelioma research to date.
Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor of the lining of the lung, abdomen, or heart known to be caused by exposure to asbestos. Medical experts consider it one of the most aggressive and deadly of all cancers. Approximately 3,000 Americans are diagnosed with mesothelioma every year and an estimated one-third were exposed while serving in the Navy or working in Navy shipyards.
