USO Center at Osan Air Base in South Korea Celebrates Grand Re-Opening
Osan Air Base, South Korea (PRWEB) July 03, 2013 -- USO hosted military leadership, service men and women, and USO volunteers at a ribbon cutting ceremony today to mark the grand opening of USO Osan. The new center will support troops and military families serving in South Korea. USO Osan, a fixture of the Osan Air Base community for many years, was recently closed and relocated to a more accessible location inside the Osan Air Base Community Center.
“The USO has been an important member of the military family in Korea for more than 60 years,” said Sloan Gibson, USO President and CEO. “On the eve of America’s birthday, the USO is proud to recognize the service and sacrifice of our brave men and women and military families serving here, their constant vigilance protecting the freedoms for those of us at home.”
The center features many touches of home and will provide the service men and women and military families of Osan an opportunity to connect with their loved ones back home via computers, phones and free Internet access. The center will also offer core USO programming such as United Through Reading’s Military Program. USO Osan and nearby USO Camp Humphreys also plan to host larger events together such as unit barbecues.
"The United States Air Force here in Korea has maintained a great relationship with the USO and truly appreciates the support they provide each and every day to all our Airmen and their families,” said Lt. Gen. Jan-Marc Jouas, Deputy Commander, United Nations Command Korea.
The entire Osan community has opened its arms to the USO to facilitate this move. Led by Lt. Gen. Jouas, leadership at the base level, Mission Support Group, Force Support Squadron and outstanding USO volunteers have made the new USO Osan possible.
The USO operates nearly two dozen locations throughout the Pacific Region, including six USO centers in South Korea. USO Osan will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m.
