Eco-Friendly Clothing Brand PuraKai Launches "Ocean Friendly" Clothing Kickstarter to Reduce Herbicide and Pesticide Use
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) July 09, 2013 -- PuraKai means Pure Ocean, the company co-founded by a father and daughter makes eco-friendly men's organic cotton clothing and women's organic cotton clothing from what they call "Ocean Friendly" fabrics like organic cotton. As surfers and stand up paddle boarders their mission with PuraKai is to create a socially responsible business for the "For the Love of Water,” meaning they want to eliminate synthetic herbicides and pesticides from the rivers, lakes and streams, which ultimately dump into the ocean.
However using eco-friendly and "Ocean Friendly" organic cotton is only part of the story. The company also makes 100% of their clothing in the USA, with 98% of clothing sold in the USA being made overseas they feel it's important to make clothing here at home so they can help rekindle American manufacturing.
And the duo has gone a step further, with the goal to make clothing in the USA from organic cotton grown in the USA, they recently launched a "Seed to Organic Shirt" Project on Kickstarter. As Noel stated, Kickstarter gives us the ability to connect directly with consumers, since we’re the manufacturer this approach allows us to cut out the middleman and offer a premium Made in the USA organic shirt for the same price as many other apparel companies sell non-organic cotton shirts made in China and elsewhere.
While they’re focused on selling clothing to like-minded eco-friendly surfers, stand up paddle boarders, free divers and other water lovers, their customers are really anyone that’s interested in organic ethically made in the USA clothing. Megan said, we're definitely an ocean lifestyle brand but the upscale eco-friendly fabrics and fashionable designs would appeal to just about everyone.
In February Consumer Reports wrote an article How to know which flag-waving products are true red, white, and blue. In the article they state “Given a choice between a product made in the U.S. and an identical one made abroad, 78 percent of Americans would rather buy the American product.” There is a growing movement for Made in America products.
Noel said, "The goal is to create a US based supply chain for clothing that goes form the seed of the organic cotton all they way to the shirt, we know we can make clothing here from organic cotton grown here, and we can do it without dumping toxic chemicals into our rivers, lakes, streams and oceans. We spend most of our free time as a family around the ocean and stand up paddling in the bay and freshwater lakes. I shouldn't have to think about my children or I getting sick when we get in the water, but most of the time we do, and that needs to change."
