Sport news website sport.co.uk to provide live coverage of The Open
(PRWEB UK) 8 July 2013 -- Digital Sports Group today announced they are expanding the coverage of the sport.co.uk website to follow Golf’s oldest Major Championship live as the best golfers in the world look to win the famous Claret Jug.
The 142nd edition of the British Open Championship will take place at Muirfield in East Lothian for the 16th time, starting on the 18th July. Muirfield last hosted the championship in 2002 when Ernie Els of South Africa was victorious. The same Ernie Els is also the reigning champion having won the title for the second time at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club in 2012. The US Open and Masters showed how unpredictable this years Majors have been with hot favourites Tiger Woods and Rory Mcilroy failing to rise to the occasion. The Open this year is looking like it will be wide open.
DSG believe The Open will be an incredible event at an incredible venue and predicts a British winner in it’s coverage that can be followed live on any device.
Head of Operations at DSG, Matthew Tait had this to say “British winners of The Open have been few and far between and before the triumph of Darren Clarke in 2011 you have to go back to 1999 when Paul Lawrie won. It’s about time we saw more British success and with the wealth of talent in these shores I think we are on the brink of a golden era. Here at Sport.co.uk we are going to put as much of The Open excitement onto your computers and mobiles with the best independent coverage that can be found anywhere!”
Simon Boynton, Managing Director of DSG believes that Sport.co.uk will be the perfect venue for Golf and The Open “Sport.co.uk has grown rapidly since its re-launch in mid January in both coverage and readership and we have grown from just a handful of writers to well over one hundred. The great quality of our journalists and feature writers are already providing a great service to golf fans. Sport.co.uk is the perfect hub for Sport in the UK.”
