School of Internet Marketing Instructor on Edward Snowden and NSA Internet Privacy
Jersey City, New Jersey (PRWEB) July 06, 2013 -- Earlier in June, news reports indicated that the U.S. government had acquired the phone records of millions of Americans from Verizon. This fueled the debate on internet privacy for citizens and what information the government should access. School of Internet Marketing Professor and President of Halyard Consulting, Jonathan Halyard, discussed this issue in a recent podcast.
"When Google was founded, their one big motto was Do No Evil, and now they're almost forced – they actually are forced – to do evil." Jonathan Goodman
The issue is not only that this data is being handed over to the government, but that American citizens are not being told what information is being relinquished. The compiling of information on private citizens is being done under the guise of national safety. However, the American public has no idea what information is being shared or how deep that information goes. Goodman goes on to say that citizens also don't know who that data is being shared with. Do specific political parties or other special groups have access to private information about people's associations?
Goodman questions if we are truly safer now that the government has almost complete access to all our private data. The concern that many average citizens have is of where the monitoring and tracking ends and what other repercussions it will have. If the goal is to make society feel safe, it appears that the battle may already be lost.
