(PRWEB UK) 8 July 2013 -- The updated safety alert has been announced as certain models of Beko gas cooker were recognized as posing a safety risk, reports This is Cornwall in the article ‘Safety Alert on Gas Cookers Is Updated’ on July 6. The announcement outlines that some Beko, Leisure and Flavel cookers manufactured before 2009, which have separate ovens and grills, pose the risk when the grill is turned on with the door closed. Using some of the affected models in this way can cause a build up of carbon monoxide which could lead to carbon monoxide poisoning.
According to the BBC, Beko began recalling the affected products in 2008 after becoming aware of the risk. In 2010, the deaths of two men, Richard Smith and Kevin Branton, occurred after their Flavel grill produced high levels of carbon monoxide.
Details of the affected models are listed on Beko’s website as they endeavour to warn people of the risks. A spokesperson from Beko told BBC News of the urgent need to further trace affected models, as 480 are currently untraced. He added that:
“We want to find them urgently so we can implement the simple modification, free of charge, and eliminate the safety risk.”
