Kappa Delta Pi to Offer 150 Educational Sessions at Convocation 2013
Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) July 10, 2013 -- Convocation 2013, October 24−26 in Dallas, TX, offers more than 150 educational sessions that provide meaningful, timely information attendees can use in their teaching careers. Based on peer review, only the highest-quality presentations are among the offerings in the Convo 2013 program. The conference, themed “Connecting in a Big Way,” includes workshops on three strands: Leadership or Policy, Research or Action Research, and Practice or Instructional Strategies. Each engaging 60-minute interactive workshop presentation focuses on a topic that fits one of the three conference strands.
There is something for every attendee’s particular needs—including undergraduates, PreK–12 practitioners and administrators, graduate and doctoral students, and university faculty. In addition to workshops, practicing educators and preservice teachers may attend two informal poster sessions that provide opportunities to learn new teaching strategies from the presenters. At the Idea Swap for PreK–12 Practitioners poster session, veteran educators share “tried and true” ideas and tips.
Healthy Kappa Delta Pi chapters engage, inspire, and empower their members and create successful programs and innovative experiences that make a difference in local communities and the Society. During the Healthy Chapters Connect poster session, chapter counselors can speak one-on-one with chapter representatives who have built those successes.
Back by popular demand at Convo are the Research Roundtables, wherein those newest to teaching share and discuss their research in small-group settings. This session is designed especially to give undergraduate and graduate teacher candidates, as well as recent graduates, an opportunity to share and discuss their research with peers in a roundtable format (8–10 attendees). Those registering for Convo 2013 prior to Aug. 31 will get special early bird pricing.
Two pre-Convo clinics will take place from 8:30 AM to noon on Thursday, October 24. Because there is limited space in these, they require pre-registration and a small additional fee. “iLead – KDP Institute for Teacher-Leaders” is an interactive, hands-on workshop to help new and aspiring teachers develop their unique leadership skills and create their own educational vision. Nicole Marsac, an elementary teacher and doctoral student in instructional leadership, will facilitate this fast-paced workshop for preservice teachers, graduate students, and new teachers in their first 3 years of teaching.
“Held Hostage by Bad Behavior? Rescue Yourself!” will focus on dealing with drama in the classroom by developing rapport, keeping yourself in check, and understanding the effects of punishment versus consequences. By using Unconditional Positive Regard and Diffusers, and creating an effective classroom atmosphere, teachers can greatly reduce problem behaviors and help build a better behaving classroom that is ready to learn. This fun and commonsense session will be presented by Eric Combs, Assistant Principal at Fairborn Primary School, 2006 Ohio Teacher of the Year, and doctoral candidate.
A preview of Convocation 2013 in the form of a series of mini-webinars about the workshops will be held on Saturday, August 3. https://www..gotomeeting.com/register/407461778 [Taste of Convo __title__ Taste of Convo] will consist of 40-minute webinars, each starting at the top of an hour, to help KDP members learn what types of workshops and presentations they want to attend. Presenters will give information on both Pre-Convo Clinics, Universal Design for Learning, STEM and STEAM, and Vocabulary Strategies for All Content Areas. https://www..gotomeeting.com/register/407461778 [Registration for Taste of Convo __title__ Registration for Taste of Convo] is required.
Why should you attend Convo 2013? Gina R., a 7th grade teacher says, “Every time I attend Convocation, I return home rejuvenated and full of ideas. It is like being a new teacher all over again.” Connect with peers from your region, state, and around the world, brush shoulders with world-renowned thought leaders in education, meet distinguished Laureates at their panel and fireside chats, get charged up about new KDP initiatives and forward-thinking ideas in education, learn effective teaching strategies at interactive sessions, be inspired by keynote speakers, get involved with the KDPGlobal.org online community, and walk away with memories that will last a lifetime.
