REDWOOD CITY, CA (PRWEB) July 09, 2013 -- oDesk, the world’s largest online workplace, announced today that Brian Levey has joined the company as General Counsel, effective immediately. Levey will be responsible for providing strategic counsel by leveraging his proven expertise of establishing and scaling legal infrastructures for market leaders in disruptive industries. Previously heading up the Corporate and Legal Operations team of over 30 professionals at eBay Inc., Levey will lead oDesk’s legal affairs function and help scale the Company’s global footprint. He will report to Gary Swart, CEO of oDesk.

Levey brings to oDesk more than 20 years of corporate law experience, including leadership roles at eBay Inc. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc. For the past seven years, Levey served as the Vice President, Deputy General Counsel, Corporate and Assistant Secretary at eBay Inc. and prior to that, as Associate General Counsel, Corporate. During his more than 13 years at eBay Inc., he provided legal oversight and managed execution for more than 80 strategic acquisitions and investment transactions, including PayPal, BillMeLater, Gmarket, GSI Commerce, Skype and StubHub. In addition, Levey worked with eBay Inc.’s board of directors, was one of the company’s senior-most business ethics officers, was a member of the senior-most management team of the eBay Inc. legal department, and led departmental processes that resulted in significant cost savings. His breadth and depth of knowledge spans a wide range of business issues including strategic transactions, corporate governance, privacy, risk management, employment, and competition law, among others.
Levey holds a law degree from Stanford Law School, where he was an Associate Editor of the Stanford Law Review, and a bachelor’s degree in Economics, with honors and distinction, from Stanford University. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, the Board of Visitors of Stanford Law School and the Board of Directors of Stanford Athletics’ Buck/Cardinal Club.
