The 2013 MLU Championship: Professional Ultimate Frisbee’s Biggest Game Comes to Philadelphia
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) July 10, 2013 -- On Saturday, July 13th, the Boston Whitecaps and the San Francisco Dogfish will meet at Philadelphia’s historic Franklin Field to face off for the Major League Ultimate Championship. The best players in the country will showcase huge throws, amazing layouts and aggressive defensive bids in an effort to capture Ultimate Frisbee’s most prestigious prize.
“This game represents the culmination of a truly amazing 2013 Season during which our new league appeared on ESPN’s SportsCenter on a nearly weekly basis, pulled solid ratings on Comcast and continually brought new fans to this incredibly entertaining game,” says Nic Darling, Executive VP of the MLU. “Across the country our teams have done an amazing job showcasing our sport, and we are excited to take that up another level for this Championship Game.”
The Championship will feature a variety of local Philadelphia talent in addition to the athletes on the field, including Philly personality Mr Hollywood, DJ J5, the renowned Fralinger String Band mummer troupe and 11-year-old vocalist and musician Brianna Jaffe who will sing the National Anthem.
Ticket holders for the Championship Game will also have a variety of benefits around the game including free access to a pre-game clinic run by MLU players, a tailgate at City Tap House, a Kids Zone during the game with activities and prizes for younger fans, and a great post game party.
“We are very excited to bring the MLU Championship to Philadelphia,” says Jeff Snader, Commissioner of the MLU, “This is an amazing sports town, and we know that fans will love the experience on and off the field. The game is guaranteed to be a great time for fans of all ages.”
The Championship will also benefit several charities. Bernadette Scarduzio, from the moving documentary film Bernadette, will be at the game raising awareness and funds for Charcot-Marie-Tooth, a devastating degenerative nerve disease.
In addition, disc sales at the game will benefit a key charity supported by Waveborn, the Championship’s Title Sponsor. One dollar from every disc sold at the game will go to Surgical Eye Expeditions International, an organization dedicated to providing medical, surgical, and educational services by volunteer ophthalmic surgeons with the primary objective of restoring sight to disadvantaged blind individuals worldwide.

“As a league we are proud to be associated with people and companies that give back,” says Sander. “The best partnerships are those that support the league, grow the sport and provide for those less fortunate.”
