Local Food Co-op Teams with Brewing Company to Preserve Tallahassee, FL River
Tallahassee, FL (PRWEB) July 10, 2013 -- After a highly successful fundraising effort last summer, The New Leaf Market is once again joining forces with the SweetWater Brewing Company to raise funding for the Apalachicola River. Having contributed over 5000 dollars to last year’s “Save Our Water” campaign, Northern Florida’s largest food co-op is looking to surpass their previous charitable mark. This year’s drive started on the 4th of July, and will be running straight through July 23rd at the market.
Both New Leaf and Sweetwater are working in conjunction with The Apalachicola Riverkeeper, a non-profit organization designed to monitor and protect the upper portion of the Apalachicola River. All raised money will flow directly to the organization, where it will be utilized to combat the decrease in fresh water currents exhibited by the sprawling river. These waning currents take a devastating toll on the wildlife of the Apalachicola River, which currently retains the highest documented number of biological species within any continental river system.
Local Tallahassee, FL residents looking to aid the cause should stop by The New Leaf Market, where cashiers are currently accepting donations. Contributors will receive a paper fish, which they can then decorate in any manner they see fit. The fish will ultimately be displayed throughout the co-op, amongst local produce and natural vitamins, to show support for the beloved Apalachicola River and Bay.
Supporters may also choose to attend a number of events held by Sweetwater Brewing, which were specifically designed to raise funding for the cause. Beer tastings will be held by the brewery on Saturday, July 13th and Saturday, August 3rd, both beginning at 4:20 pm. A ticket to either event costs 10 dollars, and includes a SweetWater pint glass, along with a coupon that saves shoppers 3 dollars off their next SweetWater purchase. All attendees will also be permitted to sample five or more of the company microbrews.
