Extremes:
1. Highest bill: Houston, TX at $198.55
2. Lowest bill: Los Angeles, CA at $35.96
3. Largest Month over Month (MOM) increase: Dallas, TX from $90.24 to $164.38
4. Largest MOM decrease: Portland, OR from $98.70 to $91.46
The city with the highest bill for June was Houston, TX at $198.55. This is typical for Houston, as the summer season is in full effect and temperatures usually reach the upper 90’s in June. This trend will continue throughout the summer season as Houston will fluctuate between the high 90’s and 100’s. The greatest increase in monthly bill was Dallas, TX, from $90.24 in May to $164.38 in June. The temperature in Dallas, TX caught up with the rest of the state in June, raising electric bills accordingly.
As in May, Los Angeles, CA once again had the lowest bill at $35.96 in June. Los Angeles will continue to provide the lowest electric bill throughout the summer especially since the southern California temperature rarely fluctuates. Portland, OR saw the greatest decrease, which was a decrease of $7.23 compared to its May average bill. Even during the summer, Portland, OR maintained mildly cool temperatures ranging from the 50’s to the 70’s helping decrease the average electric bill.
NATURAL GAS
Extremes:
1. Highest bill: New York, NY at $34.90
2. Lowest bill: Orlando, FL at $10.79
3. Largest MOM increase: Dallas, TX from $17.84 to $17.73
4. Largest MOM decrease: New York, NY from $43.42 to $34.90
As we saw last month, New York, NY once again had the highest natural gas bill at $34.90 in June. Indianapolis was a close runner up at $31.12. This is a normal trend from a year over year perspective and will only continue throughout the summer.
As in May, Orlando, FL once again had the lowest natural gas bill at $10.79 in June. This is primarily due to temperatures remaining in the high 80’s for most of the month, reducing the need for natural gas. The southern states will continue to see a huge decline in their natural gas bill as temperatures rise dramatically in the summer and remain consistently hot for the majority of upcoming months.
The city that saw the largest month over month decrease was Dallas, TX, from $17.84 to $17.73. This decrease was not significant; however, it still managed to remain just under the median as far as the natural gas bill goes. The decline of natural gas bills will continue as the majority of the country maintains hotter temperatures.
